Global Agenda for Better Use of Natural Resources – Phase 4

Project duration: January 2023 – December 2025

As the International Resource Panel (IRP) continues to play a central role in providing scientific insights for policymakers at the G7, the SUN-supported initiative moves forward into Phase 4 with an ambition to elevate the discussion on systemic change.

The key objectives for this phase include:

  • Establishing scientific targets for resource use, translating global climate (IPCC) and biodiversity (IPBES) science into clear guidance for material consumption.
  • Developing future-fit governance—a global institutional framework for science-based natural resource management that connects strategies at global, regional, national, and local levels.
  • Assessing the implications and opportunities for emerging economies in a world with fundamentally shifting resource flows, including trade impacts and economic leapfrogging potential.

To ensure lasting systemic change within the UN, persistence and continuous capacity building will be essential.
